Swimming is the only sport that can save a life.
And yet, 79 percent of children in families with a household income of less than $50,000 have no or low swimming ability (USA Swimming Foundation).
In partnership with the Washington Jesuit Academy in D.C., which serves boys from low-income and underserved communities, the WJA Swim Club equips 4th-8th graders with the life-long, life-saving, life-enriching skill of swimming. Our mission is to spread a knowledge and love of the water.
Each year we take a cohort of twelve students who attend a free, five-week training program throughout the summer. By completion, our graduates are able to tread water, float, and feel confident being alone in the water without assistance.
Exciting news!
Through our fund raising efforts, we have raised over $50,000.00 and have not only assured that the swim club is fully funded for the next five years, but have also been able to sponsor a current seventh grade student at WJA, as well as a fourth grader who will be new to the school next year.
